A groundbreaking ceremony for Manchester Fire Department’s new Station 9 on Calef Road was scheduled for Monday morning, UnionLeader.com reported.
Station 9 at 575 Calef Road has been closed since 5 p.m. Friday, October 7, in preparation for construction of a new fire house, the report said. The station was built in 1962.
Station 9, built into the hillside at the corner of Calef Road and Garfield Street, also responds to routes 293, 93 and 3 and to water rescues on the Merrimack River, the report said. It also is one of the primary responders to the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, the report said.
Engine 9 also answers calls for multiple-alarm fires in the inner city and on the West Side, according to the report.
