North Powder Rural Fire Protection District Opens Fire Station

The North Powder Rural Fire Protection District held an open host for a fire station, reports The Observer.

The fire station cost $1 million and will help the all-volunteer department serve an area of 172 square miles.

The department paid for the bulk of the building with its own funds. Other funding came from frants from local and regional organizations and donations from numerous businesses and residents.

A general contractor oversaw the construction of the building. Many of the fire departments members helped with the work, including installing interior walls. Children of firefighters also chipped in, often with the cleanup.

Canada’s Hemlock Valley Fire Department Fundraises for New Truck in New Ways

According to a report from Agassiz-Harrison Observer, the Hemlock Valley Fire Department (HVFD) in British Columbia, Canada, holds an annual casino night to help raise funds for the company. However, COVID-19 as made 2021 all but normal.

The worldwide pandemic is the main reason HVFD Firefighter Kelly McCormack decided to fundraise for the department digitally this year. He hopes the funds raised will be enough to purchase computers for the department’s fire trucks to better understand their fires.

The HVFD is also holding an online auction to raise money by auctioning off items like Sasquatch Mountain Resort packages, a 43-inch TV, Sandpiper Resort golf packages, Aberlour scotch whisky, and other items. The resultant monies will be presented to the HVFD this Saturday, March 20, where they will also hope to sign up some new volunteers.

The HVFD is also asking for donations via a GoFundMe page. So far, they have received $890 out of their $12,000 goal on that page.
