Fire Museum in Central Ohio Showcases History of Local Firefighters

PHOTOS: Located in the former Columbus Engine House No.16, the building was completed in 1908 and was built as the last engine house in the city to accommodate horse-drawn steam engines. The station closed in 1982 and after twenty years of fundraising and a $900,000 renovation, the museum moved into the building and opened to the public in 2002.

Seattle’s first Black firefighter, fire chief shares wisdom at age 90

VIDEO: This Black History month, KIRO7 is celebrating Chief Claude Harris — Seattle’s first Black firefighter who rose through the ranks to become the city’s first Black fire chief. His journey was not without major pushback, as well as challenges that are tough to imagine now. “God has blessed me, I’m still healthy,” Harris said.

Renton agrees to share FD CARES service with Puget Sound Fire

During their Feb. 12 meeting, the Renton City Council approved an interlocal agreement to extend the FD CARES pilot program to the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority and into their response area. FD CARES is an alternative response model operating under the Renton Regional Fire Authority under which units that contain a registered nurse, social worker, or other specialist work both proactively and reactively to address the individual needs of community members that are chronically homeless, experiencing a mental health crisis, or identified as having unique healthcare needs.

VIDEOS: Flames tear through cottage in Pennsylvania

PHOTOS: "A little bit of smoke to start with and I said that looks funny and then it burst into flames," said Harrison Leuckel. The longtime resident first spotted the fire around 1:55 p.m. Tuesday in the now-burned down cabin, located within the Waldheim Park church-owned community. Smoke could be seen for miles but luckily the flames didn't spread in this mostly seasonal community of 82 cabins covering 40 acres along South Mountain.

Alabama firefighters: New schedule change improving fire operation

VIDEO: Firefighters who work for Decatur Fire and Rescue have operated on different schedule since early 2024. The previous schedule had firefighters working 24 hour shifts, before having 48 hours off. The new schedule has firefighters work 48 hours straight, before having 96 hours off. Decatur Fire Deputy Chief Nathan Springer said the move was requested by firefighters in 2023, and has already improved fire operation since.
