VIDEO: After 150 years of service the De Pere fire department has gone through many large changes.
Despite these changes, the department uses its history to prepare for the future.
"We always grow from the big events we have to get a little bit better," said battalion chief Brett Jansen. A technological advancement that is a far cry from the humble beginnings of the fire department back more than a century ago.

The Spokane Valley Fire Department says it’s a tragedy to deal with a loss like this, but they’re celebrating the legacy of a firefighter who never stopped serving his community. Dan Patterson died unexpectedly from heart complications he suffered after a shift.

A person is dead after crashing their plane near Sequim.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said a resident first heard a low flying plane and called deputies, saying they thought the engine may have sputtered before the crash Wednesday around 3 p.m. Rescue crews rushed to the scene near Diamond Point Road and found the crash site in a dense part of the forest.

Pierce County saw the most lightning strikes of the day when a series of thunderstorms moved over western Washington on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
The Northwest Interagency Coordination Center said there were 250 lightning strikes in Washington between Tuesday evening and 10 a.

Firefighters from across the state now have a 6,400-acre fire on their hands as of Wednesday night in Douglas County. The blaze is situated about 12 miles southeast of Waterville.
Known as the Mohr Fire, winds blew the blaze onto itself during the day causing more interior spots to burn.
Fire Information Officer Ben Shearer says the most active portion of the blaze remains near the Douglas Creek drainage area.
