Report: Inland Power security light sparked Gray Fire that destroyed more than 240 homes in Spokane County

A devastating wildfire that destroyed the town of Medical Lake last summer was caused by sparks from an Inland Power light, according to a report from the Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The report obtained by KREM 2 states the Gray Fire started because of an arcing wire on an Inland Power outdoor security light.

Seattle Fire Department receives over $70k for critical thermal imaging cameras

The Seattle Fire Department announced Wednesday that they have been gifted $73,000 by the James D. and Sherry Raisbeck Foundation Trust for brand-new thermal imaging cameras. The equipment will be used to enhance firefighter safety and effectiveness, according to a press release sent out by SFD. The foundation’s gift will help buy 78 brand-new thermal imaging cameras for the entire fire department.

This year, the State Fire Marshal’s Office is emphasizing flammable liquid burns. According to the Fire Marshal, flammable liquids ignite easily and can burn with extreme rapidity.

Spokane Valley Fire Department responds to record number of calls in January

The Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) responded to a record number of calls in January 2024. Valley Fire Chief Frank Soto revealed the department responded to more than 2,100 calls just last month alone. More than 1,700 of those calls were EMS related, followed by 170 building alarms and 95 car accidents.

2 shooting victims seeking help crash into Alabama fire station; 1 dies at hospital

Two shooting victims - a male and a female - were rushed to the hospital after they hit a Birmingham fire station while they were seeking help. One of the victims, the male, was pronounced a short time later at UAB Hospital. In what police called a “chaotic scene,” the ordeal began about 6:40 p.m. when gunfire erupted at the Shell station on the corner of Old Springville Road and Brewster Road.
