The Monroe Charter Township Fire Department recently acquired a new state-of-the-art fire truck and added three new firefighters to its roster, MonroeNews.com reported Tuesday.

The $1.5 million truck is packed with safety and user-friendly features such as back-up, side-view, and bucket cameras, a dual-control ladder that allows movement controls for both the person in the bucket and on the ground, and improved downrigger designs, the report said. The new million truck has a 2,000-gallon water tank, a 100-foot ladder and a 4-man cab.

During its July meeting, the township board approved adding three new firefighters, the report said. The new hires will be paid on call and will respond to calls when needed, a fire official said.

Crook County (OR) Fire & Rescue has received a $2.5 million grant to make the fire station in Prineville more resistant to earthquakes, according to a report published by KTVZ News 21.

According to the report, the main fire station was built in the 1970s and is due for an upgrade and it hasn’t been remodeled since the 1990s.

The department received a seismic rehabilitation grant after an inspection revealed that the Prineville station needed work to withstand an earthquake and fire officials are seeking proposals to do that work until September 14, according to the television station.

The City of Troy, NY will have to pay 45 percent more that it expected to repair its 133-year-old Troy Fire Station 6 at Canal Avenue and Third Street after the contractor discovered that water damage requires extensive structural work, TimesUnion.com reported Monday.

The renovations at the firehouse, also known by its historic designation as the J.C. Osgood Fire House, were into their fourth week when the construction firm CD Perry reported that the basement concrete floors were deteriorating and the steel supports for the building are corroded, the report said.

The Blaine Volunteer Fire Department received a $750,000 federal grant to build a new station after its old one burned down, WCHSTV.com reported.

The new station will be built at the department’s temporary location in the Martha community of Lawrence County, the report said.

In 2013, the former fire station near Blaine burned down. The VFD bought the former Ashland Oil garage, but the department has five trucks and only two can be parked inside the garage. The other three are parked at locations throughout the county.

A $750,000 federal grant will fund a new fire station to solve that problem. It will be built behind the temporary station, the report said.
