Illinois first responders using new communication boards for patients facing verbal communication challenges

Communication is key, especially in medical emergencies, but when a patient has a disability affecting their speech or can't communicate because of a sudden medical crisis, first responders have trouble finding out the best way to help the patient in need. The Peoria Area Speech-Language Hearing Association, or PASHA for short, is partnering with Advanced Medical Transport and the Peoria Area EMS to create more than 200 Augmentative and Alternative Communication Boards for emergency responders.

'Aquaman' rescued by authorities and good Samaritan after being thrown off New York bridge into river

VIDEO: A dog nicknamed Aquaman is lucky to be alive after being rescued by a good Samaritan and officials from the New York Fire Department when it was reportedly thrown off a bridge and into the Harlem River. The distressing incident occurred on Tuesday when Marine 4 from the New York Fire Department responded to a report of a dog that was in distress in the Harlem River after somebody reportedly threw the dog off of a bridge, the FDNY said in a post on social media.

Fire that damaged 12 apartments, destroyed cars in Renton reignites overnight

VIDEO: A three-alarm fire that damaged 12 apartment units and destroyed multiple cars Wednesday in Renton reignited early Thursday morning. Fire reported in Yakima at Franz Bakery

Yakima City Fire Department responded to calls about a fire at Franz Bakery Outlet on N 4th Ave. around 2:30 a.m. Yakima City Fire Chief DJ Goldsmith says they saw smoke coming from the roof and found the heating and air conditioning unit caught on fire. The fire is out and firefighters are investigating the damage to determine the cause.

Snoqualmie Fire Department to host annual breakfast, fundraiser

The Snoqualmie Firefighters Association is holding its annual Pancake Breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, during the Snoqualmie Days celebration. The event will be held at the at the Snoqualmie Fire Station, 37600 SE Snoqualmie Parkway. The Fire Association helps support the Snoqualmie Fire Department’s purchase of special equipment.
