Clallam County's emergency management center was quiet Wednesday, but people there know it's always calm before a storm. "It's hard to get people to take it seriously," said emergency management program coordinator Anne Chastain. "This is something that could be absolutely devastating." Scientists know a major earthquake will happen in our area at some point.

The man who investigates and helps prevent destructive fires in Chelan County will leave that office in mid-January. Stephen Rinaldi has been county fire marshal since January 2022, after six months as deputy to then-Fire Marshal Bob Plumb. He previously held the marshal's post in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
