Broken Arrow is celebrating one of its firefighters. He’s become the department’s first Smoke Diver. The Oklahoma Smoke Diver Association is one of only three Smoke Diver programs in the United States. Oklahoma’s program is in its second year and now 11 more firefighters have the designation including Broken Arrow’s own Wade Ambrose.

On Wednesday, March 30, 1977 one of the largest disasters to hit Lyons occurred when a massive fire completely destroyed the historic four-story Paaske Furniture building at 65 Main Ave. The strong winds spread the fire onto the adjoining Potts Jewelry Store at 71 Main Ave. That historic building also was destroyed.

A building that caught fire roughly one year ago was engulfed by flames again on Wednesday afternoon, this time being deemed a total loss. According to Ben Shearer of the Pasco Fire Department, crews were dispatched to 712 N Rd 56 for a residential structure fire shortly before 1:00 p.m. on March 23, 2022.
