VIDEOS: Plane makes forced landing, catches fire on North Carolina interstate, officials say

PHOTOS: A plane making a forced landing on Interstate 26 in North Carolina Thursday night caught fire and snarled traffic for hours. Several News 13 viewers have called the newsroom, reporting a crash. And video showed the aircraft on fire. Asheville fire officials confirmed the forced landing. According to the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office, multiple people were taken to the hospital.

City in Illinois gets a purple fire engine

PHOTOS: The Evanston Fire Department today unveiled a new fire engine with a distinctive Northwestern University-inspired purple and white color scheme. The university agreed two years ago to provide $800,000 to fund the purchase of the new engine. And Fire Chief Paul Polep says he started work shortly after that — meeting with firefighters at Fire Station #3 on Central Street where the new engine is housed — to come up with the new design concept for the engine — the latest of several fire and ambulance vehicles donated to the city by the university.

Connecticut fire department welcomes its first female firefighter in 116 years

Marking a significant milestone, a fire department in West Haven welcomed its first female firefighter, who was officially sworn in Tuesday at Minor Park Station. Crews respond to partially sunken boat spilling fuel near Seattle boat ramp

PHOTOS: United States Coast Guard crews responded to a partially sunken boat near the First Avenue boat ramp on Thursday morning. USCG crews worked with Seattle Fire, Seattle Police, and local Washington Department of Ecology responders to set up an “absorbent boom” around what they describe as a cabin cruiser.

Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue captain retiring after 20 years

PHOTO: Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue Captain Joe Delvo is retiring after almost 20 years with KVFR and over 31 years in fire service. Delvo started in fire service in June 1985 with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. He held multiple positions throughout his years with the DNR and spent countless hours fighting wildfires around the state.
