First responders deeply affected by Tennessee bus crash

While hospital and emergency response officials praised the actions of paramedics, firefighters, police officers and emergency room staffers in responding to Monday's school bus crash that left five children dead, there was general agreement that the horrific accident left many emotionally scarred. "I've never seen a more upset group of ambulance workers," said one emergency room staffer, who asked to remain anonymous.

Watch video as 3 firefighters bail from Michigan apartment fire

Raw video from an apartment fire Tuesday at the Village Shores Apartments in Flint, Michigan that left three firefighters injured. Shortly after the 2:00 mark in the video above you can hear the evacuation order. This is followed by firefighters rushing to get a ladder to a balcony where two firefighters are trapped.

Delaware city to idle fire trucks to save on overtime

The day after a Canby Park blaze killed two firefighters, the Wilmington Fire Department suspended a controversial program in which a fire truck was taken out of service on a particular day to save on overtime costs. Although no link was found, a fire engine nearest to the Sept. 24 deadly blaze had been placed out of service that day.

After a year of fighting, New York town's mayor moves to replace fire chief

Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow is preparing to replace the city's fire department chief after a contentious year between the two that included battles over layoffs and overtime expenses. Barlow said he has no ill will toward Oswego Fire Department Chief Jeff McCrobie, just the culture he's created. Barlow is referring to the chief's former policy of prioritizing senior firefighters when offering overtime shifts, which is pricier for taxpayers in the long run.
