Ground was recently broken for the Concord Township (OH) Fire Department’s Station 1.

The 22,600-square-foot structure will be built across from the current station, which will be razed when Station 2 is constructed—for which there is no set date.

Station 1’s completion is expected in spring/summer 2023, which coincides with the 75th anniversary of the township’s fire department.

The Charlottesville (VA) Fire Department is receiving $140,000 to purchase smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, stovetop fire stops, and CPR-assist devices, reports NBC29.com.

It’s part of a department effort to ensure residents have smoke alarms installed. The funding is coming via grant, which has a specific target demographic for the equipment, according to the report.

Officials say Fifeville, Belmont, and 10th & Page are among the neighborhoods that will be receiving the devices.

February 7, 2022, Frankfort, IL – The Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) will award stipends to 30 qualifying fire departments that demonstrate a plan to conduct community outreach during home Fire Sprinkler Week 2022.

The stipends, funded through a grant from State Farm Insurance, are being rolled out ahead of Home Fire Sprinkler Week, which will take place across North America May 15-21, 2022. Co-Sponsored by HFSC and the NFPA Fire Sprinkler Initiative, the week emphasizes the dangers of home fires to residents and firefighters and promotes the importance of building new homes with automatic fire sprinklers.

The stipends will help fire departments of any size or type conduct educational programs that may include:

• Produce an educational banner or canopy tent with your logo.
• Purchase a TV monitor to play HFSC’s new Virtual Reality video or other HFSC educational videos.
• Create a video using your smartphone showing the benefits of home fire sprinklers and post to social media or your website.
• Boost social media posts. Share HFSC’s new Virtual Reality video, other HFSC educational videos and social media cards. 
• Build a Home Fire Sprinkler 13D Display which includes a riser pack donated by AGF Manufacturing. HFSC’s Display Guide provides all the information you need to build it.

To qualify, applicants must be current members of the free Built for Life Fire Department Program (BFLFD). They will also be required to describe their plan to use and evaluate their awards. Now in its fifth year, Home Fire Sprinkler Week has become popular with fire departments in the US and Canada and HFSC anticipates widespread participation again in 2022.

Nederland (TX) Fire Rescue is donating Aerial 11 to the Lamar Institute of Technology’s Fire Academy.

The apparatus will be used for training events; the academy had two apparatus before Aerial 11.

The donation came to fruition after the city purchased a Pierce custom Velocity Aerial, which replaced the 1987 model. The purchase price of the new ladder was $1.466 million, and the city did not have to issue debt or adjust taxes.

The ladder on the new apparatus is 100 feet and has a pumping capacity of 2,000 gallons per minute; its predecessor had a 75-foot ladder and pumped 1,500 gallons per minute.
