San Luis (AZ) Breaks Ground for Fire Station 2

San Luis, Arizona — [Wednesday] morning, the City of San Luis officially broke ground on the San Luis Fire Station No. 2, to be located in East San Luis.

City officials, San Luis Fire Department personnel and city staff, commemorated the beginning of what it is to be San Luis’ newest fire station. It will be located on the corner of County 24th street and 19th Avenue. The new station will improve fire protection and reduced response times to thousands of people who reside in East San Luis.

In the last 10 years, there has been an abundance of growth in East San Luis. Currently, response times for the area is between Six (6) to five (5) minutes. The new station will lower the response time to two (2) to three (3) minutes. Apart from the safety aspect, the construction of the fire station will help increase the Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating of the city, from a 3X rating, up to a 2X rating. This score reflects how a community and area is prepared for fires. The construction of the fire station will help lower home insurance premiums for all San Luis residents.

Construction of the new fire station is expected to being as early as next week. The Fire Station will be constructed by Merrill Development Inc. The 2,400 square feet building will include a lobby, seven (7) dorm rooms for on-duty personnel, a kitchen, game room, gym, three (3) bathrooms with showers, one (1) Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant restroom, one (1) supply room and a new barn for the fire engine. Construction is expected to be completed late May 2023.

“East San Luis is growing rapidly and it is one of the reasons why we have been named one of Arizona’s boom towns. With growth comes the need for robust public safety,” stated Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “After four years of hard work from staff, this project is becoming a reality. This is a good day for San Luis! Greater things are coming,” he concluded.

“Growing up here and being a part of the San Luis Fire Department for 18 years, I never expected to see another fire station be built,” stated Fire Chief Angel Ramirez. “When I was appointed as Fire Chief, my number priority was the construction of this fire station. I am more than ecstatic about this project finally becoming a reality,” he concluded.
