Firefighters with the Walker (MN) Area Volunteer Fire Department recently took delivery of a new top-mount pumper with an enclosed pump control panel, according to a report published by Lakeland PBS.

According to the television station, the department has 24 volunteers who got the new pumper thanks to taxpayers and community matched funds from Sourcewell. The new pumper also has a compressed air foam system and an iPad that literally runs the truck, according to the report.

The truck will respond to structure fires, woodland calls, medical emergencies and car crashes much more quickly, according to the report.

Michael Ludvigsen, president of the fire board for the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Department, told the television station that because of generous donations, the department has a small amount of money in the bank that keeps the department going. He said the department has about a dozen vehicles that must be fueled and ready to go at a moments notice, according to the television station.

The department provides coverage for more than 12 miles of roadways and dozens of miles of beachfront responding to medical calls, vehicle crashes and other calls, according to the report.

Ludvigsen said the department is preparing to boost fundraising activities if necessary to combat the increasing fuel prices, according to the report.

An early Thursday morning fire destroyed a barn and several vehicles in Okanogan County. Firefighters from Carlton, Twisp and Winthrop responded about 3:15 a.m. to a structure fire at King’s Garden on Highway 153 near Carlton. Crews arrived to find a barn fully-involved in flames, according to Okanogan County Fire District 6.
