Amateur radio group to bring 1st municipal-based emergency service to Maine county

A group of amateur radio operators in Caribou have banded together to start Aroostook County’s first municipal-based emergency service, hoping to modernize the region’s use of technology during disasters. In a rural county where internet, cellphone and other types of communication can be spotty in good weather, storms can easily knock out those modes of communication.

Tennessee Firefighters Walk to State Capitol to Raise Awareness for Mental Health

U.S. COVID-19 cases, deaths declining; states begin to ease restrictions

COVID-19 cases have continued to subside throughout the United States, while deaths have also settled after increasing rapidly amid surges of infections brought on by the Omicron variant. The United States reported a daily average of 178,705 new COVID-19 cases, down 67% over 14 days, according to data gathered by The New York Times, as individual states have begun to loosen masking mandates and other restrictions to mitigate the spread of the virus and health officials have indicated the peak of Omicron infections has passed.

Barge Catches Fire In Commencement Bay In Tacoma

A scrap metal fire aboard a barge had firefighters rushing to Commencement Bay early Monday. The Tacoma Fire Department first reported the blaze at around 10:45 am., saying that it had mobilized crews and the Fireboat Defiance to contain the fire, which is burning near the 6300 block of Marine View Drive.

Medical emergency & tragic crash along Moses Lake claim the life of woman

A 69-year-old woman tragically passed away after a car accident along the west shore of Moses Lake on Wednesday evening. According to the Grant County’s Sheriff’s Office, the victim was driving east on Road 4 NE around 7:30 p.m. on February 9. She was traveling at high speeds in her 2018 Ford Explorer, approaching a T-shaped intersection at Edwards Drive NE.
