Metro Atlanta firefighters get rare opportunity learn about train derailments, spills

VIDEO: Many firefighters will go their whole careers without seeing a train crash, derailment, or train hazard spill. But it’s the one time it does happen, and being prepared for it, that can mean the difference between life and death. “You can actually YouTube a video of a tank car imploding," said a Norfolk Southern Railway instructor.

Spokane Valley Fire Department gets new devices to combat dangers of smoking, breathing medical oxygen

If you have family members or neighbors who breathe in-home medical oxygen, they can be at risk if a fire starts around them. These “oxygen fires” are often started when someone smokes and uses oxygen at the same time. The Spokane Valley Fire Department wants to raise awareness about these types of deadly fires.

Natural Gas Leak The Cause Of Evacuations In Hoquiam

An uncontrolled natural gas release at the intersection of Bay Ave and Ontario Street in Hoquiam resulted in evacuations on Tuesday afternoon. The leak was reported at approximately 2:15 PM as a smell of gas coming from a building and an uncontrolled natural gas release was discovered in a 2-inch Cascade Natural Gas service line.

Tacoma firefighters take down 'stubborn' house fire

Crews had to tackle a house fire overnight in Tacoma. Firefighters got to the 5200 block of South Pine Street early Thursday, where they found smoke and flames bursting out of a two-story home. Everyone inside got out safely, but crews said the fire was stubborn and those inside could not get clear access because of construction.

Skagit County first responders do their part during flooding

Flooding from the Samish and Skagit rivers has kept first responders busy the past several days. In addition to responding to their normal 911 calls, they have responded to calls related to wind damage and have rescued residents who have needed their help, including some who opted against evacuating flood-prone areas and others who ignored warning signs on flooded roads.
