Video: Arkansas firefighters safe after caught in backdraft

A Texarkana mother and baby are safe after their house caught fire and exploded just after 10 p.m. Wednesday. When the Texarkana Fire Department arrived at home in the 2000 block of Pearl Street, they found smoke coming from the attic space of the residence. Firefighters say Tasha Pool and her 18-month-old child were asleep inside the house when neighbors began beating on her door, telling her the house was on fire.

2 Forest Service firefighters dead after car crash into river in California

Two U.S. Forest Service firefighters are dead after the car they were driving went off the road, down a cliff and into the Trinity River sometime Wednesday night into Thursday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol said the two were reported missing after they left work in Salyer on Wednesday and never showed up for work Thursday morning.

Political candidate bashes fire trucks use in Iowa chief's funeral

A write-in candidate for governor is facing heat from firefighters after posting a video on Facebook ranting about the misuse of emergency vehicles in a fire chief’s funeral procession. Longtime Colo (Iowa) Volunteer Fire Chief Mark Farren, 58, died Sunday after a three-year battle with cancer. About 700 people from across Iowa gathered to celebrate Chief Farren's life, according to Ames Tribune.

Milwaukee firefighter says getting shot on duty won't change what he does

VIDEO: A Milwaukee firefighter hit by a bullet while responding to a medical call told his story first to WISN 12 News on Tuesday. He's not letting this incident keep him from the job he loves. Frederick Coleman has been with the Milwaukee Fire Department for more than a decade and said it's a job he never wants to give up.

Ohio fire captain forged medical leave documents, police say

Middletown fire Capt. Greg Justice, a 25-year veteran of the department, is under investigation by police for allegedly defrauding the city of nearly $3,000 in sick leave pay, according to court documents obtained exclusively by the Journal-News. Justice, who has been on paid administrative leave since June 30, is accused of forging his doctor’s signature on medical records to extend his time on sick leave, according to an affidavit for a search warrant for the fire captain’s residence on Greenleaf Village Drive in Springboro.
