Oregon fire department offers free rent for volunteers

Seeking four roommates for free housing. Must have firefighting skills and be willing to live and work in rural setting. Affection for the sound of sirens is a plus. It's no Craigslist ad, but the Forest Grove Rural Fire District's latest call for volunteers may inspire some interest. The fire district is offering free rent in a manufactured home next door to its Gales Creek station in hopes of assembling a more reliably staffed volunteer firefighter pool.

New Jersey city receives $7.5M in federal aid for firefighter salaries

The federal government has awarded Paterson $7.5 million to pay for 49 firefighters’ salaries over the next two years, officials announced on Wednesday. The city had expected to face a $2.5 million shortfall in the 2016 budget because a previous federal grant for firefighters’ salaries had expired in April.

A/C unit put in by Fort Worth firefighters ‘is saving my life’

Capt. David Collard said his firefighters regularly make emergency calls to help people who have fallen. But the one they answered Friday afternoon was a little different. Leroy Conley, 73, who lives on Market Street on the north side, had fallen and needed help getting up. Conley told the firefighters that he had become ill, and after walking inside his residence, they understood why.

Ohio firefighters injured in fire truck rollover crash

VIDEO: Two Monroe Township firefighters were hurt after their truck overturned on State Route 222 Tuesday afternoon, only 200 yards from the fire station. Chief William Jetter said the two man crew was on their way to a fire alarm at a nearby day camp. "I knew something was wrong," said Jamie Ingram.

Update: California Fire Chief Placed On Leave Amid Defibrillators Investigation

Compton Fire Chief Jon Thompson was placed on leave Tuesday as the city launched an investigation after a series of Times reports on breakdowns in the fire agency's management of emergency medical care. City Manager Johnny Ford said officials would examine how most city firetrucks and ambulances were stripped of defibrillators, a crucial lifesaving device that rescuers use to deliver a shock to try to restart the heart of cardiac arrest victims.
