'They burn extremely hot': Arizona fire department uses different tactics to battle electric vehicle fires

VIDEO: On any given call, the likelihood first responders will find an electric vehicle on the streets of Phoenix is going up. “There are more and more of these electric vehicles on the road, so we have to be more cognizant if it’s a hybrid if it’s an electric vehicle, how we approach it,” Capt. Evan Gammage with Phoenix Fire Department said.

U.S. again averaging 100,000 new COVID cases per day after holiday

For the first time in two months, the United States is averaging more than 100,000 new COVID-19 cases each day, shortly after millions of Americans traveled for the Thanksgiving holiday. The seven-day moving average of new cases was 121,437 as of Saturday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Family Fun Center in Edmonds catches fire with no one inside

The old Family Fun Center building in Edmonds caught fire early in the morning. The building, at 220th St SW and Highway 99, caught fire just hours into Wednesday morning. South County Fire said its crews had to block off part of the road while taking down the blaze, but roads have since been cleared.

Yakima County home destroyed in fire, owner runs into burning house to try to save pets

PHOTOS: A home in Wapato has been burned to the ground and fire fighters say the owner risked her life running back into the burning building to try to rescue her pets from the flames. Firefighters were called out to the fire on the 200 Block of North Track Road at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday. Before fire crews could arrive they say the owner of the home had first escaped the house, but then ran back inside to try to save her pets that were still inside.

DNR purchases Dallesport school building for regional wildfire hub

By purchasing a vacant building in Klickitat County, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (Washington DNR) hopes to provide a prompt, full-scale response to wildfires in the Columbia River Gorge. The Dept. of Natural Resources is acquiring a 3.6-acre property from the Lyle School District that previously housed Dallesport Elementary School.
