John H. Oates, former fire chief of the East Hartford Fire Department in Connecticut, has been named the new CEO of the International Public Safety Data Institute by the organization’s board of directors. Oates replaces Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell, who was appointed to lead the U.S. Fire Administration by President Joe Biden in October.

PHOTOS: Oftentimes first responders must physically get out and open unmanned security gates in neighborhoods when there’s an emergency, but now technology is helping get them through much quicker.
For all the unmanned gates protecting communities in Palm Beach County, for years now they’ve been required to have Knox Boxes.

Kennewick firefighters discovered the body of a woman in her 60s inside a home after responding to a report of an explosion and fire at the residence.
Firefighters responded to the house fire located at 228 North Quincy Street at 6:15 PM Monday evening. The home is located to the east of the Zintel Creek Golf Club.

The Walla Walla Fire Department is presenting its annual “Keep the Wreaths Red” challenge as a way to remind residents preparing for the holidays to keep their families and homes safe.
For the rest of the holiday season, each Walla Walla fire station — at the corner of 12th Avenue and Poplar Street and at Wilbur Avenue and Tacoma Street — will have a wreath mounted with red lights.
