The town of Orleans (MA) is asking residents to fill seats on its new Fire Station Feasibility Study Committee, reports capecod.com.

The committee will assess potential renovations and additions to the existing station and offer alternatives for a potential new facility, the report says. It will consist of five voting members in addition to the fire chief and building and facilities manager, who will serve as non-voting members.

Duties for the first phase of the project include reviewing information provided by architects hired by Orleans. The committee will also identify alternative sites for meeting safety needs and develop a timeline.

The committee will be tasked with providing monthly updates throughout the first phase, with the project expected to be a multi-year event, according to the report.

Interested parties can submit a Citizen Interest Form to the town administrator; interviews will be held on Dec. 8, 2021.

North Hampton (NH) officials are pitching a $9.9 million municipal complex that would eliminate the current spaces at the police station and town offices, as well as a decaying fire station, reports Yahoo.

As is the case with many a municipal project of this nature, North Hampton must float a bond to fund construction, requiring at least a 60% percent voter approval in March, the report says.

While the nearly $10 million price tag is high, officials say the current conditions are unsafe and any delay in the process could lead to price increases.

Given the conditions of the town’s current buildings, razing and building anew makes financial and time management sense, construction officials say. The board approved the conceptual design at its last meeting, giving architects the green light to gather cost estimates.

The proposed facility would be a 26,557-square-foot, two-story, four-bay building that houses both the police and fire departments. Plans also include the renovation of the former library with a two-story, 4,000-square-foot storage addition, providing a total of 9,500 square feet, according to the report.

Central Manitoulin (Ontario) fire officials say that out of the 38 volunteer firefighters on the roster only 12 have the credentials to operate the apparatus, reports northernontario.ctvnews.ca.

They add that half of the members are working at getting their license, but that could take months due to an ongoing provincial testing backlog, the report says. The government’s offer of one extra examiner isn’t going to make a difference in the issue, officials say.

Another challenge the department faces is having four stations as opposed to one hall, the report says, which makes it tough to schedule volunteers.

Voters will decide December 21 whether to authorize the purchase of a combined engine and rescue fire apparatus for up to $725,000 for the Mohawk (NY) Fire Department, reports recordernews.com.

The single proposition would authorize the vehicle purchase and the issuance of a bond for up to $450,000 toward the expense, the report says.

Officials say no impact to taxpayers is anticipated. A portion will be covered by district reserve funds—with approximately $150,000 going toward the down payment—as well as proceeds from the sale of two department apparatus: a 1991 International Tanker and a 1997 International Rescue, the report says.

Polls will be open to registered voters at the Mohawk Fire Department at 2553 Route 30A on December 21 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The new facility will replace the decommissioned Station 1 at 211 Jackson Ave. and the existing Station 6 at 924 Thomas St. The new firehouse will be two stories and nearly 13,000 square feet.
