Squishy robots give Kansas firefighters remote insight during emergencies

VIDEO: The Olathe Fire Department is testing out new technology that could help keep firefighters safe. Thanks to a new partnership with Squishy Robotics, the department now has access to three new tensegrity robots that can be used to prevent exposure to hazardous chemicals. The six-month pilot program will allow firefighters to get hands-on experience operating the new technology.

Wisconsin fire station climbs ladder to State Register of Historic Places

PHOTOS: La Crosse Fire Station No. 5 has another claim to fame, in addition to being the last station in the city to use horse brigades: It’s now listed on the State Register of Historic Places. The Wisconsin Historical Society, which bestowed the distinction on the station last month, cements the building’s heritage as the last surviving firehouse in the city, although it’s no longer used as a fire station.

162-acre Double J Fire near Republic forces immediate evacuations

A 162-acre fire burning northeast of Republic, Washington in Ferry County is forcing immediate evacuations. According to Ryan Rodruck with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, the fire is being called the Double J Fire and is burning near Highway 21. The Ferry County Sheriff’s Office issued Level 3 evacuations for Herron Creek, Springridge Road, Goa Way and Grizzly Loop.

The Schneider Springs Fire Keeps Fighting Back As The Blaze Battle Continues

Slow growth and slow containment. That's the latest on the Schneider Springs Fire. The fire remains at 31% containment, the same number the fire was at on Sunday. The fire, which started August 3 by a lightning strike grew from 104, 853 acres on Sunday to 105,447 acres Tuesday. Officials with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest say "temperatures are expected to warm back to seasonal norm around 75 degrees with southeasterly wind conditions on Wednesday.

Trickle-down effects from overcrowded hospitals: Ambulances scarce and a house burns in Ocean Shores

The overcrowded hospitals we've been telling you about for weeks are having ripple effects out into the community -- some you could predict and some which are a little more startling. Take for example a fire that gutted a house in Ocean Shores or expensive airlifts from Leavenworth, Washington. There is no private ambulance service in coastal Grays Harbor County.
