Memories remain for Firestorm '91 firefighters on 30th anniversary

VIDEO: On October 16, 1991, a devastating firestorm ripped through Eastern Washington, leaving 114 homes burned, 35,000 acres of land smoldered and two people dead. Now, 30 years later, the effect of Firestorm ’91 is still being felt in the Inland Northwest. Saturday marked the 30th anniversary of the firestorm, where nearly 100 wind-driven wildfires decimated a large portion of Eastern Washington.

Seattle Fire expects to lose staff over COVID-19 vaccine mandate

It’s been months in the making but Oct 18 officially marks the start of Gov. Jay Inslee’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for thousands of state workers. Both King County and the City of Seattle adopted the mandate. Workers who fall under the mandate have been told they will lose their jobs if they don’t get the shot or get approved for an exemption.

Firefighters respond to garage fire in northeast Spokane

Firefighters responded to a garage fire in a northeast Spokane neighborhood late Saturday. At around 11:12 p.m. Saturday night, firefighters responded to a detached garage fire in the 3600 E. block of Princeton Ave., according to Spokane Fire Department. They also found a small shed that had caught on fire too.

Man accused of making bombs faces arson charge in Jefferson County

A Port Hadlock man who lost his left arm to a homemade bomb in June was charged Friday in Jefferson County Superior Court with first-degree arson along with two felony counts of possession of a bomb or explosive device. Jesse Thomas Taylor, 46, was also charged with possession of explosive without a license, as well as two counts of reckless endangerment.
