Schenectady (NY) Fire Dept. Orders New Aerial and Two Engines

Schenectady (NY) officials have agreed to process of lease-purchasing three new fire trucks with a total cost of $2.6 million, according to a report published by The Daily Gazette.

The newspaper reported Rosenbauer has been selected to build a new 100-foot aerial platform and two custom pumpers for Schenectady with the plan to take possession of the new apparatus in about 14 months.

The city got a discount of about $100,000 for pre-purchase payment and an interest rate of 2.2 percent, the paper reported, adding the new trucks are being purchased through a program called Sourcewell, a consortium used by New York and other states nationwide.

The city is on a 5-year cycle to replace apparatus with the Garrison Fire & Rescue Corp., with which the city has had a 30-year relationship, according to the report.

The newspaper said the city won’t have to make a payment on the lease purchase until 2023.

VIDEO: SUV Hits Three Vehicles in Front of Warren Township (OH) Fire Station

Two vehicles owned by firefighters were damaged Saturday afternoon when an SUV crashed in front of the Warren Township (OH) Fire Department’s Station 2.

A third vehicle, owned by a “too close for comfort” woman visiting the fire station and which had been exited just seconds earlier, was also struck. All three vehicles were vacant at the time of the crash.

The driver—who doesn’t have an active license—was cited and transported to a hospital for minor injuries, but his identity has been withheld. The crash is being investigated by Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The accident happened at 1:38 p.m. when the motorist lost control of his vehicle as he drove west on West Market Street. He struck a parked pick-up truck, which pushed it into two other parked cars at the facility, which can be seen in the above video.
