As wildfire conditions continue to worsen across the state, Labor and Industries has filed emergency rules to protect outdoor workers from wildfire smoke exposure.
Smoke from wildfires contain chemicals, gases, and fine particles that can harm health. L & I says the most concerning hazard is associated with the smallest particles, or Particulate Matter that are less than 2.

Crews with the Bureau of Land Management confirm the Yakima Canyon is out after burning 40 acres. Peter Trask with BLM says it’s unclear what first sparked the fire, but that hot air pushed the fire up the slopes of the canyon as it fanned out in a V-shape. He says the lighter winds today were a boon for firefighters and it didn't spread as fast as it might have on another day.

Firefighters made progress on Friday battling a wildfire that destroyed four homes and forced a town to evacuate, although thunder, lightning and wind in the forecast could change the situation quickly.
The Chuweah Creek fire, near Nespelem on the Colville Reservation, grew to 34,694 acres and was 20% contained Friday evening.

Evacuations for the Goddard Road Fire, burning near Rice, have been downgraded to Level 2 evacuations.
Level 2 means ‘Get Ready,’ and means you should be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. The fire is 10% contained. The evacuation orders were downgraded for the first time since Friday. People living near Rice in Stevens County were previously under a Level 3 evacuation due to the fast-moving brush fire near Goddard and Pleasant Valley.
