VIDEO: Boston firefighter Daniel Ranahan had heard about colleagues getting cancer but he was stunned when doctors discovered a tumor in his chest.
He was only 30 and had been in the Boston Fire Department for less than a decade. But as he investigated his diagnosis of Hodgkin's lymphoma in October 2020 and sought successful treatment, he learned he and others wore gear that contained the toxic industrial compound PFAS.

A fire management team is hoping to turn over control of a pair of wildfires burning in Yakima River Canyon to local crews Friday.
Both the Roza Slope and South Slope fires, burning on either side of the Yakima-Kittitas county line, are at 60% containment, according to the Southeast Washington Type 3 incident management team, which assumed command of the fire Wednesday.

VIDEO: A garbage pile caught on fire at Spokane's Waste to Energy facility near the airport Wednesday evening requiring Spokane firefighters to combat hazardous conditions.
According to the City of Spokane Fire Department, crews responded about 5:19 p.m. to the facility on South Geiger Road and located a pile of garbage on the main floor.

VIDEO: Eighty people are displaced after a four-alarm fire ripped through an apartment complex Wednesday night. Firefighters battled flames into Thursday morning.
All 49 apartments in the complex have been impacted, and 80 residents have been displaced.
Officials are telling people in the area to conserve water.
