48 people displaced, 5 buildings damaged in 7-alarm Massachusetts fire

Dozens of people are displaced and five buildings were damaged Wednesday when a seven-alarm fire spread through a Dorchester neighborhood. The fire was reported at about 11:15 a.m. on Fayston Street. From Sky 5, heavy, black smoke could be seen coming from at least three triple-deckers -- Nos. 86, 84 and 82 Fayston -- at the corner with Mascoma Street.

Hearts for Heroes program saves Michigan firefighter's life

Members of the Farmington Hills police and fire departments, along with officers from the Farmington Public Safety Department, received cardiac health screening tests as part of the Hearts for Heroes program back in December. Created by Dr. Justin Trivax and Dr. Herman Kado, Farmington Hills interventional cardiologists, the Hearts for Heroes program grew from an idea that originated with Trivax’s high school daughters, Tessa and Sienna.

Barriere (Canada) Welcomes Fire Apparatus

Barriere firefighters were very excited to greet a new fire truck, reports

The new 2021 truck’s engine is a 350 horse Cummins, has a Freightliner chassis, a Hale DSD1250 Midship Pump, Emergency Rescue Pumper with side control operator’s panel, the body construction is saltwater marine grade aluminum, and the water tank holds 1,000 gallons.

Features on the truck include a front bumper hose bin, a hydraulic overhead ladder rack, a 2500 watt inverter, FRC evolution push up scene lights, Whelen warning and scene light package, an Akron Apollo monitor, and a Whelen TAL65 traffic advisor.

The fire department posted to Facebook, “After it’s 2100km journey. Driving through snow, freezing rain, rain, wind and finally a beautiful sunny day. Barriere Fire Rescue’s Engine 2 is finally home. Over the next week we will outfit it and learn the few new options. Then on Thursday after practice it will enter service. Ready to protect the community for the next 20 years.”

124-Year-Old Buffalo (NY) Fire Station Still Operational

A still-operational Buffalo fire station was built in 1897 when horses still pulled the engines, reports WKBW Buffalo.

Engine 28 was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The fire station has the fire department’s only operational fire pole.

The stalls which once held the teams of horses here are now gone, but the doors to those stalls remain.
