Site work has begun on High School Road for the new Hyannis Fire Station. Voters finally approved $18.5 million for the new station last April after three previous failed attempts. Demetrius Atsalis, a member of the Hyannis Fire District Board of Commissioners, says work at the site is starting to progress.
"The foundation work has started and they are moving a lot of soil out because of, I guess, some contamination from asbestos," Atsalis said. "If you drive by some times you might think you are watching a lunar landing with the uniforms the men and women are wearing there."

Rescue Equipment Stolen from Osolo Township (IN) Fire Apparatus

Six-thousand dollars worth of equipment was stolen from an Osolo Township fire truck. It happened on February 18, when the volunteer firefighters were celebrating their annual appreciation dinner at Matterhorn restaurant on Cassopolis St. One of the firefighters noticed suspicious people around his truck, which was in the parking lot.
"Unless you have that specialized equipment, you really can't use it for anything else," said Danny Rust from the Osolo Township Fire Department. "With us being rescue workers and depending on our equipment, it's just hard to believe somebody in the community would come and steal from us. I mean we try to better the community and we just don't understand why they did that."
