The rate of average daily new COVID cases in the U.S. fell to below 41,000 over the weekend, down 30% from two weeks ago and the lowest level since September, Johns Hopkins University data showed.
The country has reported an average of 2 million vaccinations per day over the past week, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, down 40% from its peak level.

Two fires were intentionally set Sunday in the University District that caused thousands of dollars in damages.
Four restaurants were impacted and several apartment units.
“It’s scary to see this happen,” said Don Blakeney, executive director of U-District Partnership, which is the neighborhood’s business improvement district.

According to Yakima Fire Department, two structure fires on Saturday led to three injuries and $250,000 in damages. The two fires happened within three hours of each other.
At 3:17 pm Saturday, Yakima Fire Department (YFD) firefighters were dispatched to the 900 block of South 25th Avenue, for a single-family residence that had fire at the front of the house and in the attic.

Firefighters from three agencies responded to a wildland fire reported near Lake Lenore off SR 17.
Grant County Fire District 7 Lt. Corey Hendricks says it started near a shooting range on a steep cliff side a little after 7:00 p.m. Saturday.
“It was wind driven, though we’re not sure exactly what the cause was.

Fire investigators are now investigating the cause of a fire that started in the attic of a Prosser butcher shop on Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday morning, crews were still on scene monitoring the butcher shop and checking for hot spots.
Scott Friend with West Benton Fire Rescue tells Action News crews were still putting water on the building at 4 a.
