VIDEO: The Spokane County Fire District 9 voted to put the special levy back on the August ballot after it was projected to fail for the first time in more than 28 years.
Fire Chief Jim Walkowski told NonStop Local that a big factor in the levy's failure was a misunderstanding of what the levy tax does and how the increase would affect voters.

Spokane County Fire District 4 (SCFD 4) put out a house fire north of Deer Park. The residents were able to evacuate, and there were no reported injuries.
SCFD 4 firefighters responded to a structure fire on Tuesday night, April 23, the people in the house were able to evacuate after hearing their smoke alarm.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Spokane Valley Fire Department and Spokane Valley police rescued a dog that fell into a storm drain. Thursday afternoon, April 25, a man was walking his dogs near 37 and Skipworth Road when one of his dogs fell down an eight-foot storm drain.
The man called the Spokane Valley Fire Department, and with the help of the Spokane Valley Police Department, the dog Nikki was rescued and safely returned to its owner.

Firefighters battled a two-alarm apartment fire in Washougal early Thursday morning.
Just before 4 a.m., East County Fire & Rescue crews were called to the apartment complex on Main Street on reports of flames coming from the building. Authorities say multiple agencies helped extinguish the fire, including the Camas-Washougal Fire and Vancouver Fire Departments.
