The newest Franklin firefighter is the second female firefighter in the city’s history, and the first in a while. Diversity is a priority of the Franklin Fire Department, and one that is starting to come to fruition. Casey Whitaker is not new to Franklin or public safety. She worked for Seals Ambulance Service since 2016, and was an EMT for nine years.

The mutant coronavirus strain first identified in the United Kingdom remains at low levels in the United States but is doubling its reach approximately every 10 days, according to a study published by researchers on Sunday. The study bolstered modeling done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which predicted last month that the more contagious variant could be the dominant strain in the U.

PHOTOS: Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a fire that gutted a home in Tacoma early Monday morning. Crews responded to the scene, in the area of South 92nd Street and South Yakima Avenue at about 3 a.m. after receiving reports of a heavily involved fire. Smoke and flames were billowing from the home when the first firefighters arrived on scene.

On Feb. 4, the Friday Harbor Town Council adopted an ordinance sending the proposition of town annexation into San Juan Island Fire District No. 3 to its voters on April 27, 2021. Currently, all properties on San Juan Island are part of the district with the exception of those in town. The effect of annexation will be that owners of real property in town will pay the same rate as other property owners on San Juan Island for their fire services.

According to a report from FOX8, one person was killed and four Vermilion Township (OH) Fire Department (VTFD) members were hurt after a motorist crashed into the back of a VTFD truck Saturday morning.

VTFD firefighters were responding to a vehicle rollover on Route 2 when the fatal accident occurred.

One VFD firefighter was hospitalized but has since been released. The driver from the initial accident was air-lifted to the hospital. There are no immediate details released about the driver who died.

Huron Fire Department also shared a Facebook post about the accident and cautioned motorists to slow down and move over when they see emergency vehicles.
