Wenatchee Valley’s two fire districts are expected to be run by the same chief over the next year, during which time they’ll explore the feasibility of a merger. Douglas County Fire District 2 commissioners signed an authorization Thursday that allows the district to negotiate with Chelan County Fire District 1 in hopes that its chief, Brian Brett, will lead both districts.

The northbound lanes of State Route 599 were blocked for several hours Friday morning after a hit-and-run driver caused a 12-vehicle crash. The crash occurred near East Marginal Way in Tukwila around 5 a.m. All lanes of SR 599 reopened around 8:15 a.m. According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson, a woman was speeding and tried to get between a semi-truck and another vehicle.

Most of us have our favorite beers like ales, stouts and porters. But now, there’s a new IPA in town. The Kennewick Fire Department paired up with Ice Harbor Brewery in Kennewick for their new red IPA or RIPA. A case, or 24 cans, will set you back about $40 dollars. However, one dollar from each can purchased will go to the KFD’s benevolent fund that helps locals in need.

Palm Coast has taken delivery of an E-One ladder fire truck, reports FlaglerLive.com.

Ladder-25 is a $980,000 truck, plus $40,000 for additional hardware. The 42-foot-long truck gets about 3.2 miles per gallon, carries 500 gallons of water–enough to put out a one-room fire or a car fire at 125 gallons a minute without hooking into a hydrant–and has a ladder that extends 100 feet, with a water cannon that can fire up to 1,250 gallons a minute.

The fire truck is also built with consideration for firefighter health. Oxygen tanks are stored in their own compartment and loud horns have been lowered to the bumper level.

All the lights aboard are now LED, hugely reducing energy demands on the truck’s alternator or the need for what would have been a 10,000-watt generator aboard. Smaller, portable generators are enough. 

Firefighters will be trained in early March, including training on aerial operations by E-One.

Firefighters in Prattville been answering calls out of the newest station since the beginning of February, reports Montgomery Advertiser.

The station has a pump truck along with a reserve engine, ambulance and brush fire truck. There’s also a kitchen and gym and recliners in the day room surrounding a big screen TV hanging off the wall. The station resides in an area that has seen a lot of residential growth. Fire apparatus are parked in a central three door bay. On the other side is a police department annex and a decontamination room. 

Planning  for the new station go back officially to 2008, but the need has gone back longer than that. Station 3 went online in 1998.
