Hurricane season starts Saturday and forecasters predict it could be one of the busiest on record. Preparation is key during hurricane season, which includes knowing your evacuation route. But most people also say they would only evacuate for a Category 3 storm or stronger.

Number of fires in Spokane up so far in 2024

Charging e-bike may have caused fire at Lacey home

VIDEO: Firefighters in Thurston County saved a home early Thursday morning after a fire caused by lithium-ion batteries. Lawrence Witkowski says he and his wife were sound asleep when smoke detectors went off at their home in Lacey. “My wife went out to investigate and saw the smoke kind of swirling in the kitchen and it looked like it was coming from the garage, so she immediately told me we need to go out and call 911,” said Witkowski.

Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue Chief announces retirement

After 19 years on the job Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue Chief John Sinclair announced that he will retire on Dec. 31. Chief Sinclair became Chief of Kittitas County Fire District 2 in 2005 and oversaw the district's merger with the City of Ellensburg to become Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue in 2007, according to a KVFR press release on his retirement.

VIDEO: 2 houseboats catch fire on Lake Union in Seattle

Seattle firefighters responded to Lake Union when two houseboats caught fire on Wednesday afternoon. Crews responded to the 1800 block of Westlake Avenue North where two houseboats were on fire, according to Seattle Fire. The fire extended to an adjacent building.
