A fire destroyed a 13,000-square-foot horse arena and barn near Battle Ground early Wednesday morning.
Clark County Fire & Rescue responded to the 10000 block of Northeast 184th Street at 3:57 a.m. Initial reports were that propane tanks were exploding inside the fire zone.
The first crews at the scene found the large horse arena fully engulfed in flames.

A Tacoma man appeared in Thurston County Superior Court on Tuesday after he was arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes, including first-degree arson domestic violence, court records show.
The court found probable cause to charge Thomas E. Hieb, 39, with the following: first-degree arson domestic violence; unlawful imprisonment domestic violence; interfering with the reporting of domestic violence; fourth-degree assault domestic violence intimate partner.

A Bellingham man was reportedly caught on surveillance video intentionally setting two downtown fires Friday morning and also reaching into a bank ATM to damage it.
Bellingham Police booked Mallik Jordan Goins, 20, into Whatcom County Jail Friday, Oct. 30, on suspicion of two counts of second-degree arson and one count of second-degree malicious mischief, and jail records show he is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Clark County’s director of Community Development will step away from that position to serve as fire marshal.
Dan Young has been serving as the Clark County interim fire marshal since October 2019, Interim Clark County Manager Kathleen Otto announced Tuesday.
Young has also been working as the community development director since December 2019, and he will continue to fill that role until his replacement is found.

VIDEO: Heidi Charest of Lady’s Island had the slightest of leads in the finals of the Firefighting Combat Challenge World Championships in Irving, Texas, two weeks ago. Her focus turned to keeping that lead as she dragged a 175-pound mannequin across the finish line.
