Boy, 9, dies after deck fire spreads to Skagit County home

A 9-year-old boy has died after a fire broke out at a Skagit County home Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. County fire officials said a neighbor across the street saw the blaze at the home at 5864 Campbell Lake Road and called authorities. Fire crews from 10 different agencies responded to the blaze.

How an internet system from space is helping firefighters in Washington

SpaceX’s Starlink satellites are being used by emergency responders in Washington to help fight fires while bringing internet access to residents in areas devastated by wildfires. The company loaned seven terminals to access its satellites to the Washington Emergency Management Division (WEMD), public information officer Steven Friederich told CNN.

Spokane veteran creates 'Spartan Axe' to honor first responders

Firefighters are two times more likely to die from suicide than they are to die in the line of duty. September is National Suicide Prevention Month and on Tuesday, the Spokane Fire Department held a dedication to honor those first responders who rush in when others rush out. The Spartan Axe was created to honor first responders, who, because of their work, are at a higher risk of behavioral health concerns like anxiety, depression and burnout.

Woman dies in Arlington house fire

A woman who lived alone died in a house fire in Arlington Tuesday afternoon. According to the Arlington Fire Department, firefighers responded about noon Tuesday to a fire alarm at ahome in the 20400 block of 64th Drive NE. The 68-year-old woman who lived there died, firefighters said. She lived alone in the house.

Car fire under investigation in Kennewick

Firefighters are investigating a car fire that started on the morning of Sept. 29. Crews were called out around 3 a.m. on Sept. 29 and when they got there they found the car on fire. It had spread to a near by fence and brushes. Kennewick Fire officials said the fair caused about $5,000 worth of damage.
