Blauer Announces New ArmorSkin® Polo

Blauer Armorskin

Blauer announced the creation of a highly-demanded addition to its popular ArmorSkin® line: the ArmorSkin Polo.  By combining the best in materials technology with the casual styling used as the uniform of the day for many in public safety, the ArmorSkin Polo allows for ultimate breathability and heat release for details, traffic, bike patrol, Fire and EMS, and more.

Designed to match the company’s breathable uniform polos, the ArmorSkin Polo features a zip-open interlining to make it easy for the user to insert and remove their existing internal armor carrier (including straps), maintaining the carrier’s protective properties but moving it outside of the uniform shirt.  Constructed of a highly breathable 100% polyester pique fabric, it is also easy to embroider with agency insignia and personnel information, maintaining a professional appearance.  Its integrated center mic tab allows for comfortable placement of equipment, and the two-button placket visually integrates with the Blauer polo to look like a continuous uniform garment when worn together.

The ArmorSkin Polo is available in incremental sizes to fit most public safety professionals, and will be available beginning in May 2016.  To find out more, visit the product information page at http://www.blauer.com/armorskinpolo

Dräger Launches X-Zone 3D with Worldwide Real-Time Data Transfer

Drager X-Zone 5500

Continuing its commitment to mobile area monitoring, Dräger's X-zone 5500 with advanced 3D communication adds a new layer of safety to its existing state-of-the-art area monitoring system through the ability to transfer key data to workstations situated across the globe. Along with these developments, users can rely on the existing features of the X-zone 5500, such as functionality and durability in the harshest of operational environments.

In today’s fire and rescue services environment, data-logging and transfer capabilities make the insights gleaned from regular review invaluable in missions involving the handling of hazardous materials and emergency rescue. Through Dräger’s 3D communication capabilities, users will gain information such as gas levels, battery levels and alarm information to assist in a variety of worksite operations.

The X-zone 5500 with advanced 3D communication allows fire departments to improve real-time data sharing via radio signal to a PC-based workstation from up to three miles away; or even farther when leveraging strategically located radio signal repeaters. Data is transmitted at a frequency between 902 and 928 MHz, ensuring reliable cross-site coverage, while reducing the number of transmitting radios needed.

“Users of the X-zone 5500 have the opportunity to strengthen and enhance their data collection, monitoring and sharing suite with the new 3D wireless transmitter. The accessibility and use of data allows individuals to pinpoint the information most relevant to them,” said Larry Medina, Product Portfolio Marketing Manager at Draeger Safety. “With the amount of data trickling out to different streams at the same time, users can leverage the information they need to improve worksite safety and diminish risk.”

The portable gas technology of the X-zone 5500 allows continuous monitoring and rapid detection of up to six hazardous gases in conjunction with the X-am 5000 portable gas detection series. The powerful combination of these mobile wireless systems extends the range of portable gas detection technology on site, supporting the option for the user to interconnect up to hundreds of X-zone 5500 devices to form a wireless fence of reliable detection.

Global SuperTanker Launches Spirit of John Muir

Globel Supertanker John Muir

2015 was one of the most devastating wildfire seasons in American history, with more than 10 million acres of land burned and billionsof dollars of damage inflicted on homes and property. The U.S. Forest Service has warned that this record may not stand for long: fire seasons are starting earlier and burning longer every year.

Serious wildfires have already broken out this year in Virginia, Oklahoma, and Kansas, burning over 400,000 acres and threatening the lives, livelihoods, and homes of millions. As the U.S. Forest Service and state emergency responders across the nation continue their hazardous and exemplary work, they can soon look forward to mobilizing a powerful new tool in their arsenal: Global SuperTanker Services, LLC’s firefighting 747, the Spirit of John Muir.

This converted B747-400, a Very Large Air Tanker (VLAT), is the largest, fastest way to fight fires from the air. The Spirit of John Muir is the world’s youngest VLAT, and has almost twice the capacity of the next biggest aerial tanker. The John Muir is capable of delivering single or multiple drops of nearly 20,000 gallons of water or fire retardant, either of which can be released at variable pressures, producing a tailored response to the firefighting need.

The John Muir provides an unparalleled level of safety to ground personnel, property, and natural resources. As a true “Next Generation” aircraft, it is capable of flight profiles unmatched by any other air tanker. The plane breaks new boundaries, flying with no speed, altitude, or operational restrictions in comparison to an unconverted 747-400.

“The Spirit of John Muir differs from other firefighting planes not just because it is capable of variable rate drops,” said Jim Wheeler, President and CEO of Global SuperTanker, “as the world’s largest aerial firefighting asset, the John Muir can fly 600 miles per hour for long ranges at efficient altitudes, reaching and combatting any fire in the Western U.S. in less than three hours.”

“The converted 747 can stand ready on the ramp at its home-base, Colorado Springs, fully loaded and able to respond on very short notice,” continued Wheeler. The John Muir will perform a flyby in front of invited guests, press, and government officials on May 5th in Colorado Springs, a home-base perfectly positioned for the aircraft to reach any point in the North American fire zone swiftly and directly.

The Spirit of John Muir’s firefighting scope isn’t limited to the U.S.: from Colorado Springs, the plane can fly anywhere in the world in under 20 hours. “Longer and more destructive fire seasons are a global problem, and Global SuperTanker can deliver a global, rapid solution,” Wheeler noted.

Wheeler, an experienced leader in the logistics and transportation fields, heads a respected and experienced team: Global SuperTanker’s management brings together a combined 259 years of aviation and related wildfire fighting experience.

Team members include Captain Cliff Hale, Global SuperTanker’s Chief Pilot, who invented the system built in the SuperTanker and piloted an earlier version of the tanker, combatting fires in the U.S. and multiple foreign countries; Bill Moody, VP of Incident Response, a renowned smokejumper and 34 year veteran of the USFS; and Captain Bob Soel-berg, a highly accomplished 747 captain and simulator instructor.

“The proven technology behind the Spirit of John Muir could not have been implemented without the immensely talented team at Global SuperTanker,” said Harry Toll, Managing Partner of Alter
