The fire was so hot that it melted a fire hose right off the hydrant.
Paint and lights on fire trucks blistered, melting in the intense heat that night 35 years ago.
The inferno on April 13, 1985, still stands as the city’s biggest, engulfing the 300 block of South Davie Street. A 35-year old homeless man, Rozelle Bryant, died in the fire.

A woman was killed when a fire broke out Sunday afternoon inside her Pierce County apartment, authorities said.
Firefighters were called to the complex located in the 2100 block of 112th Street South in Parkland around 4 p.m.
When firefighters arrived they found the unresponsive woman inside her apartment.

A brush fire reported south of Leavenworth on Sunday burned through the night and is now estimated at five acres.
The Alpenhof Fire is moving up a steep slope away from structures, Chelan County Fire District 3 PIO Annie Schmidt said. No evacuation notices have been issued.
A combination of dry vegetation and steep terrain has kept the fire burning despite the relatively cool temperatures, she said.

Fully staffed and operational as of Monday, Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue’s new Lexington station will also be home for the agency’s new ladder truck.
The Lexington station is designed similarly to its sibling station in the Baker’s Corner neighborhood of West Longview, which itself came online only last month.
