Ten horses perish in barn blaze near Royal City

Fire officials aren't releasing much information about a fatal that claimed the lives of nearly a dozen animals near Royal City early Saturday. The Grant County Sheriff Office says firefighters responded to a 60-foot by 120-foot barn at 12978 Dodson Road SW just east of Royal City at around 4:30 a.m.

Clark County Fire and Rescue crew expecting wildland blaze instead find fully-engulfed home

Clark County Fire & Rescue units were dispatched at 2:26 p.m. Friday, May 1, to a report that trees were on fire on Northeast Jenny Creek Road north of La Center. Responding crews were expecting a wildland fire, according to a press release from CCFR. CCFR Engine 23 arrived at 3:37 p.m. to find a fully involved manufactured home located at 36525 NW Jenny Creek Road.

Fire north of La Center displaces two

A residential fire north of La Center displaced two people Friday afternoon. Clark County Fire & Rescue Crews were dispatched at 2:25 p.m. to 36525 N.W. Jenny Creek Road. The initial call came in as some trees being on fire, so firefighters were expecting a wildland fire, Chief John Nohr said. Instead, the first arriving crew found a ranch-style, manufactured home engulfed in flames.

Spokane Valley Fire Department mechanic ensures crews make it to the scene

The last thing a firefighter needs is to worry about arriving on scene safely. That’s where Wayne Tuttle comes in. As lead mechanic for the Spokane Valley Fire Department, he has spent the past 15 years making sure fire trucks are ready to get the job done. Tuttle was about to start a job working long hours on the Coeur d’Alene River when he saw the fire department mechanic job in the newspaper.

First responders added to the CDC's high priority list for COVID-19 testing - change championed by Colorado fire chiefs

First responders have now been added to a list of those eligible for high priority COVID-19 testing. This means first responders who are showing symptoms of the virus are now eligible for high-priority testing, joining hospitalized patients, healthcare workers, and residents and employees in congregated or long-term care facilities.
