Spokane firefighters to climb almost 70 floors in weighted gear for the fight against cancer

Spokane firefighters were raising money at River Park Square on Saturday for the fight to beat cancer. In March, those firefighters will climb 69 floors, wearing 60-pound gear, to honor one of their own. John Knighten served as a firefighter with Spokane’s Fire Department for almost two decades before losing his battle with cancer.

Douglas County Fire District 2 now staffing two engines per shift

Douglas County Fire District 2 fully staffed two fire engines Thursday, a first in its history. With new additions to its staff, the department has begun staffing two engine companies — four firefighters per engine, said Chief Dave Baker. The firefighters are funded by a $1 million FEMA grant awarded to the district in October.

After 10 years of fundraising efforts, Texas community gets new fire station

Many years of fundraising efforts, patience and persistence led the Adrian Fire Department to accomplish a decade-long goal that will help better serve their community and surrounding areas. “I started this project ten years ago,” said Wilbur Garrison, Adrian Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief. The goal of the project was to raise enough money to build a new $250,000 fire station that would be able to house six fire trucks and have a heating system.

Massachusetts department mourning sudden death of beloved fire chief

Well-respected and beloved Somerset Fire Chief Scott Jepson died suddenly on Thursday. Jepson, 54, of Dighton, was a 27-year veteran, joining the Somerset Fire Department in 1992 and taking over as chief in 2008. His death was announced by Somerset Deputy Fire Chief Jamison Barros, Police Chief George McNeil and Town Administrator Richard M.
