VIDEO: The Newark Division of Fire now has a permanent way of remembering its fallen heroes.
The department recently installed a memorial for firefighters killed in the line of duty.
“It’s a real risk and our new wall reminds folks of that,” Newark Lt. Neal Murphy explained.
The tribute consists of eight plaques with names, dates and a short description of each of the eight men killed since the fire department’s inception.

A Federal Way home that was the site of a fatal shooting earlier this month was destroyed by a large fire early Monday morning.
The flames broke out sometime after 6 a.m. in the 2000 block of SW 306th Lane, according to a Tweet by South King Fire officials. Video from the scene posted by firefighters show the home completely engulfed in flames.

A man was taken into custody Friday after allegedly stealing an ambulance from a scene and taking it for a joy ride on Interstate 5 in southwest Washington.
Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue crews responded to a report of breathing difficulties at a private home in Lexington, which is about 43 miles north of Vancouver, Wash.

Three people are without a home after an apartment caught fire early Saturday morning.
The fire department rushed to the reported fire at the Brentwood Apartments around 7 a.m.
According to Battlion Chief Mikal Barnett, the fire was reported on the first floor. They arrived and found heavy smoke coming from the single apartment.

An unknown problem 911 received leads to the response of the Walla Walla Fire Department.
Dispatchers got a call after midnight on Sunday and heard yelling in the background. The call came from the area of Fifth Avenue and Sumach Street. Police got to the scene and found a four-plex up in flames. All of the families were evacuated.
