After years in decline, U.S. drowning deaths are rising again

Drowning deaths in the U.S. were on the decline for decades, but a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found that fatalities have been increasing since 2020. While it's not exactly clear what's causing the spike, public health experts believe the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic could be at least in part to blame.

New study directly links night shift work with increased health risk; Pasco Fire Department weighs in on benefits

VIDEO: Firefighters shifts range but they often go into the night, some can be as long as 48 hours in a row. According to Deputy Fire Chief Chris Mortensen, sleep studies have helped fire departments adjust the way firefighters sleep to make the night shift more bearable. β€œIt used to be the alarms would blare and you were waking up and lights were flashing everywhere and we found out that was really bad for your system,” said Mortensen.

Documents detail chaos at giant homeless camp where Olympia firefighters were assaulted

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A man was arrested after police said he threw "softball size rocks" at Olympia firefighters who were responding to an active fire. "In the last few weeks there have been several incidents of individuals interfering with Olympia Fire Department personnel responding to emergencies," the Olympia Police Department (OPD) wrote on X.

VIDEO: 5 firefighters suffer heat exhaustion battling fire in Rhode Island

Firefighters returned to a Pawtucket neighborhood Wednesday evening to knock down a fire that reignited inside an apartment building. Pawtucket Fire Chief John Trenteseaux told 12 News that firefighters were first called to the East Avenue home several hours prior for reports of smoke and flames coming from the second and third floors.
