Grant County Fire District 5 Fire Chief: Housing boom in McConihe Flats area prompts new fire station

Just south of SR 17 between Ephrata and Moses Lake sits Grant County Fire District 5’s newest fire station. Construction on the much-needed structure began in late spring of 2019 with completion in the fall. The fire hall is at 8423 Neppel Rd. in McConihe Flats. The station’s bay has the capacity to house seven fire trucks.

Arlington: What city, schools, first responders are doing to stop the coronavirus from spreading

As coronavirus concern grows in the Arlington area, school districts, local governments and first responders are taking extra precautions to be prepared in case of a potential outbreak. The reality of the virulent flu-like illness hit close to home when a Marysville resident tested positive for the coronavirus, causing the school district to close Grove Elementary School and the Early Learning Center Tuesday for a thorough sanitizing of the buildings.

Firefighters across country say they don’t have enough protective supplies to deal with coronavirus

As first responders get more and more calls about coronavirus, there are serious concerns among the ranks on how they respond. “We are very very concerned,” said Patrick Morrison of the IAFF. Morrison said they’re telling fire departments across the country to take inventory of their gear. “What we are hearing from our members around the country is we do not have enough supplies," Morrison said.

Pittsburgh seeks reimbursement for $400K in firefighter overpayments

A glitch in Pittsburgh’s new payroll system triggered overpayments totaling about $400,000 for nearly half of the city’s 600 firefighters, officials said. The city is now asking for the money back. The problem occurred in late December after arbitrators provided a new five-year contract to the International Association of Firefighters Local 1, officials said.

If people need to get in from outside in the event of an emergency in downtown Bloomington, the fire department wants to let people know with specific voice directions in addition to the blare of a siren. The Bloomington Fire Department wants to install an outdoor warning siren with public address capability on the roof of the Government Center, 115 E.
