Investigators say an overnight fire that destroyed half of a strip mall in Washougal started with a pile of sheets that spontaneously caught fire. Just after 12:40 a.m. Sunday, the Camas-Washougal Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Riverside Laundry, located at 921 4th St. in Washougal.

Friday, Seattle Fire officials announced a plan to build a new fire station in Northwest Seattle replacing the current Station 31. In June, Station 31 was closed due to mold. Fire officials say the investigation into the mold lead to the realization that the station, originally built in 1973, is outdated.

For nearly two decades, Seattle firefighters have complained about a North Seattle station they suspected was making its crews sick. Now, tensions surrounding the notorious Station 31, also known as the “cancer house,” may soon come to end. On Friday, Fire Chief Harold Scoggins announced the department’s plans to tear down and replace Station 31, pending Seattle City Council approval.

One of the restrooms at Howard Amon Park is closed after an arsonist set fire to toilet paper which caused extensive damage to the building. The bathroom sits at the north end of the park. It is located near Sterling's Restaurant. Richland Park Ranger, Jason Janosky, says the vandalism occurred Thursday night or Friday morning.
