Police arrest man for alleged arson in Grandview

A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson after he allegedly threw a "ball of fire" at the porch of a Grandview home. According to police, the house's garage was heavily damaged in the fire and two cars were completely destroyed. Jose Antonio Aranda Saldana initially told police he accidentally lit some papers on fire and that's how the garage caught fire, but later said he lit the fires because it would turn to gold.

Fire claims homes and vehicles near Chelan

An out-of-control brush fire killed a dog and gutted several vehicles just before 2:30 p.m. on Monday near Chelan. At about 2:28 p.m., Chelan Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a reported brush fire approximately 1 ¼ mile up Washington Creek. Firefighters from various jurisdictions including a helicopter were dispatched to assist.

Spokane considering locks for water hydrants; adding fill stations for other companies

The City of Spokane is considering adding locks to its fire hydrants, and adding fill stations throughout the city for third-party companies to use after water was contaminated in a Hillyard neighborhood. In July, residents in some Hillyard neighborhoods were without water after a hydroseed truck was using the city's water hydrant to fill their truck and contaminated it.

Long Beach (CA) Considers Re-Opening Fire Station

Long Beach City Council vote on the city’s annual budget will determine whether a fire station will have the funds to re-open, reports Long Beach Post.

Two council members asked the City Council to approve $1.56 million to fund a temporary fire station while the city looks to build a permanent one to replace the aging building that became unusable because of mold problems.

The council members are also requesting $6.2 million in future Measure A revenue to go toward a new permanent station. The cost of building one is estimated to run between $13 million and $20 million.
