Charging lithium-ion batteries at Maine firehouse cause fire

Multiple lithium-ion batteries charging on a shelf at the Stacyville Fire Department caught fire Tuesday night, leading to damage and an injured firefighter. It happened shortly before 9 p.m. at the fire station located at 370 Station Rd., the state fire marshal's office said in a release Wednesday.

Nine-year-old Marysville boy hailed as hero after calling 911 to save teacher

VIDEO: Nine-year-old elementary school student Cormac Booth is being honored by his school and local firefighters after he sprang into action to help his teacher. On Tuesday, Cormac said his teacher passed out in the middle of class. Cormac immediately called 911 for help. “My teacher, she got up fast, she fell and she passed out.

East Pierce firefighters rescue dog that fell 15 feet into abandoned mine hole

PHOTOS: East Pierce Fire & Rescue firefighters rescued a dog that had fallen about 15 feet into an abandoned mine hole Tuesday morning. The department posted about the rescue — which happened outside of Burnett — on X at 11:56 a.m. Tuesday. The owner said his dog, Raider, fell into the abandoned mine hole and could not get out, according to the department.

Update: Lineage Warehouse fire in the Tri-Cities could be emitting potentially toxic smoke

A month in and the largest warehouse fire in the Tri-Cities is still smoldering, kicking up plumes of potentially toxic smoke. Now, health officials will install stationary and handheld air monitoring devices, looking for tiny particles that can exacerbate lung and heart issues. The state Department of Ecology plans to monitor for chemicals, including hydrogen sulfide, an extremely hazardous gas that smells like rotten eggs, and other volatile organic compounds, said Emily Tasaka, a spokesperson for Ecology.

VIDEO: Tornado touches down in Iowa, toppling wind turbines, setting one ablaze

A tornado touched down Tuesday in Adams County, Iowa, toppling several wind turbines and leaving behind a trail of damage. The tornado touched down just northwest of Prescott around 3 p.m. Tuesday as a line of severe storms pushed into the state. KCCI's Zane Satre witnessed the storms touching down first-hand.
