Minnesota mayor proposes shifting money for mental health response from police to fire department

St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter's proposed 2020 budget would take money from the police department's mental health unit and give it to the fire department. Carter allocated $500,000 for the police department in 2019 to pay for three new mental health officers and community mental health provider contracts, according to the city's finance department.

Texas fire department purchases off-road ambulances

The Brownsville Fire Department is equipped with some new ambulances that can be used in off road conditions. The three all-terrain response units will be able to go into areas standard ambulances are unable to access. Fire Chief Jarrett Sheldon said the off-road ambulances will be used on the hike-and-bike trails, along the border fence, along the river terrain and even Boca Chica Beach.

Bellingham house fire ‘got into the attic space, and we had to chase it a little’

Quick work by Bellingham Fire Department crews to knock down a residential fire Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 28, in the Alabama Hill neighborhood prevented it from spreading to a nearby house or two cars parked in the driveway. Firefighters responded at 3:30 p.m. to the 2800 block of Erie Street, Captain Dave Pethick told The Bellingham Herald, and arrived to find the garage in flames.

Seattle crews battle fire at office building at Boeing Field

A fire at an office building at Boeing Field was quickly put out by firefighters Thursday evening. The fire started in an office building on East Marginal Way at 16th Ave. South. The building was evacuated and no one was hurt, according to Seattle Fire. The area was not one of Boeing's airplane production facilities and production was not affected by the fire, a spokesperson for Boeing said.
