One California county offering free skin cancer screenings to current and retired firefighters

VIDEO: Because of their jobs, firefighters have a much higher risk of developing skin cancer, according to Dr. Steven Wang. That's why he's offering free screenings to current and retired firefighters during Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Retired Orange County Fire Captain Jeffrey Johnson said his appointment to check his skin at Hoag Irvine is long overdue.

Close calls with drivers are on the rise, Connecticut firefighters say

VIDEO: The Torrington firefighter’s union said there has been a troubling trend across the state. It said drivers have been disregarding the “move over” law. On Monday, a firefighter was hurt on a scene when a driver drove over a wire and entangled him, according to Local 1567 IAFF Torrington Fire Department.

Spokane: Man barricades himself in bedroom and lights door on fire inside home rented by Gonzaga students

While two Gonzaga University students were sleeping, a man broke into the home they rent on East Augusta Avenue, barricaded himself in one of the bedrooms and lit the door on fire, before he was arrested by police early Monday morning. “Just another day, another life,” Thomas Follet, one of the students, said.

Home Depot paying $1.3M for fire code violations in 2022 arson that destroyed California store

PHOTO: Home Depot is paying $1.3 million in fines after an investigation revealed fire code violations following an arson that burned a South San Jose store to the ground, prosecutors said. Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen's office announced the fine against the hardware giant Monday, which followed an investigation by the DA's office and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives into the 2022 fire that destroyed the store on Blossom Hill Road.
