Snohomish rescue crews prepare kids for deadliest time of year on the water

Summer vacation can be a dangerous time for children, particularly when they go swimming. Kids in Snohomish County are especially at risk because of the large number of lakes and rivers. Over the past 2 years, the team has responded to some 80 water rescue calls. 8 people drowned in Snohomish County just last year.

Wildfire risk 'extreme' in Western Washington; higher than Eastern Washington

In a highly unusual twist of fate, Western Washington now faces a far-greater risk for 'above-average' wildfires this summer than most of Eastern Washington. Cooler temperatures and rain doused chances for wildfires on Tuesday, but firefighters said conditions are still a lot drier than they would like.

Fire consumes shop near Moses Lake

Fire consumed a shop Tuesday morning sending a large plume of smoke into the air southwest of Moses Lake. Grant County Fire District 5 Chief Dan Smith says an elderly man was welding in a shop attached to a home in the 5400 block of Mae Valley Road when the contents around him caught fire just before 10:30.
