DNR unveils new tool to fight Washington wildfires

Heading into the peak of wildfire season, the Department of Natural Resources just unveiled a new tool it plans to use to keep communities safe. This year, Washington has already seen an unprecedented 900 fires that have burned 28,000 acres. “Last year, around this time, we were more in the 500 range,” said Hilary Franz, DNR Commissioner of Public Lands.

Powerline Fire near Mattawa 80 percent contained

The Powerline Fire near Mattawa is 80 percent contained as of Tuesday evening and all evacuations have been canceled, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office. The wildfire started on the Saddle Mountains northwest of Mattawa. It began as a 100-acre fire and quickly grew to nearly 8,000 acres.

Pasco firefighters team up with Water 2 Wine for safety protocol training

Firefighters with Pasco spent the day on the Water 2 Wine boat Tuesday afternoon going over safety procedures. They went over proper steps to take in an emergency whether that's someone having a medical issue or a fire on the boat. This is the first time the department has teamed up with the company.

Train Sparks Brush Fires in South Thurston County

A train passing through an area near Old Highway 9 and Highway 12 in the Rochester area sparked six small fires Tuesday in a span of two miles, according to the West Thurston Regional Fire Authority. West Thurston and Department of Natural Resources firefighters responded and brought the brush fires under control.

Minnesota Lake Fire Destroys Safety and Health Equipment

The building houses some of their larger training props, like a grain bin simulator and digital driving simulator.  

Volz says, luckily, a majority of their training props were out with instructors at the time of the fire.

He says a lot of the smaller props and the Digital Driving Simulator, worth around $100,000 were completely destroyed.
