Brentwood (CA) Working Toward New Fire Station

Ad-hoc committees for both the city and ECCFPD in the past few months have been considering sites and gathering ideas for the eventual construction of new fire stations to serve the growing communities if revenue becomes available.

On Tuesday, the City Council unanimously approved its committee’s recommendation to begin seeking proposals for architectural services, so it can identify design and costs for construction of a district fire station. If the ECCFPD board, which meets Wednesday night, also approves the proposal, the city will then have to amend the general plan to change the land use designation at the site.

Newborn Brought to Cañon City (CO) Fire Station

"We had a young man come in Fire Station 1 here in Cañon City, and he was carrying a basket that actually had a newborn male child in it. As he approached our firefighters, he told them that he found this child on his doorstep," said Lt. Shane Roberts with the Cañon City Fire Department.

The infant was immediately transported to St. Thomas More Hospital for a checkup and was found to be 1-day-old and perfectly healthy.

Cañon City police later confirmed the teen was actually the child's father. Police say the mother gave birth at home. The mother's age has not been released; the father is reportedly 18 years old.

Morgan County (GA) Searching for Replacement Fire Apparatus

“We had an incident back in December involving the loss of one of our trucks and the process to get a new one has been going on,” said Fire Chief Jeff Stone to the Morgan County Board of Commissioners at the last meeting on Tuesday, July 2. Stone noted that a dealer in Winder could provide a four-door truck for about $325,000. The old truck was a two-door truck and posed some storage limitations, according to Stone.

“We want to move to a four-door truck so we can better store what we need to have with us,” said Stone.

According to Mark Williams, assistant county manager, county staff is finalizing a Request for Proposal (RFP) to get a better idea of fire truck options available and costs.
